Government Official States Ministry of Defence Investigating Potential Threat from Chinese Cars, with Personnel Instructed to Avoid Confidential Discussions in Vehicles.

An defense official has confirmed that the MoD is currently examining the potential threats associated with Chinese vehicles, while personnel have been advised to refrain from discussing secret matters in all cars.

Security Guidance for Defence Staff

In a recently aired interview on a radio station, a defence minister addressed reports that MoD staff have been instructed not to talk about secret material while riding in China-made vehicles.

He stated that the MoD is “looking into” cars from China within its vehicle pools, but emphasised that security is a concern in every modern cars.

We have a collection of tens of thousands of cars in the Ministry of Defence and Chinese ones account for a tiny fraction.
But whether you’re traveling in a vehicle from China or a non-Chinese car, what we’ve asked our staff is not to plug Ministry of Defence technology into their car, not to have conversations at a classified classification in any vehicle, because of the growing threats of surveillance that exist in every single automobile, to only have those confidential talks in protected areas. That’s a wise and sensible thing for everyone worried about safety.

When it was suggested that it would be wise for the ministry to stop using all Chinese vehicles, the minister replied: That is exactly what we are looking into at the present time.”

Wider Security Context

The revelation comes as reports from Scandinavian countries have alerted the United Kingdom to the existence of multi-purpose shutdown mechanisms in Chinese-made buses, which could allow China to disable buses and bring disruption to public transit.

Furthermore, a Russia intelligence vessel was reportedly shining lasers at Royal Air Force aircrew, described as a “highly dangerous” act by government representatives.

This broader security situation highlights the importance of robust protocols and vigilance in every areas of official activities, including vehicle use to communication habits.
