A person who spiked sweets with sedative and distributed them to minors at a youth camp in the region has admitted sexual offences against two boys aged nine and 10.

Jon Ruben was arrested after eight minors and one adult fell ill at Stathern Lodge in the summer month.

The 76-year-old, from the Nottinghamshire area, confessed to a series of 17 offences when he appeared at Leicester Crown Court on the end of the week.

Yet, he disputed a single sexual charge he was facing, which was involving a nine-year-old boy.

The defendant was held in detention before a further hearing on November 28th.

'Treat game'

The legal representative, handling the case, described Ruben's offending to the legal proceedings.

She explained his targets were disadvantaged youngsters who were staying at a summer camp which he managed.

The man conducted a "sweet game" with the minors, the prosecutor stated, in which he would access the boys' rooms when they were getting ready for bed and tell them to eat sweets "rapidly".

She informed the proceedings the defendant had conducted this practice with the young males "over an extended period", and youngsters had earlier experienced illness the subsequent day.

She said Ruben had been capable of justifying this for many years as the youngsters being "overexcited from fun", until his stepchild had suspicions in recently.

The prosecutor continued: "In the summer" his stepson had concerns about the activities, for good reason.

"They resolved" to examine in the man's possessions."

The prosecutor stated items including infant oil, Vaseline and syringes were discovered, and his stepchild alerted the law enforcement about his worries.

She said the man went on to engage in the "sweet game" with six boys that evening - Saturday 26 July - and they were all ill the following morning.

"Authorities" had not gone out by that point," she continued.

The police watchdog, the investigative body, had stated that it was investigating Leicestershire Police's handling of the events.

The legal representative explained the minors were unable to walk properly due to their sickness, so the stepson contacted the law enforcement again.

She explained the man then conducted the "treat game" in a space of five minors.
